Fall of Innocence

There's fear in those young eyes
A plea for mercy
From a child half-hidden
by his father.

There's fear, anxiety in his eyes too.
But do guns hear?
Care if you are civilian or army?

A flash, a thud, everything over.
All is silent.
Impotent rage sears thro' me
For those perpetrators of horror.

Those eyes will haunt me
At every stage, every emotion.
Can I taste unalloyed happiness again
Knowing somewhere, some time
Innocence had been snuffed out
Ruthlessly, Hideously.
